Individual Student Alternative Education Program (ISAEP)

The ISAEP (Individual Student Alternative Education Plan) Program at Dowell J. Howard provides an alternative educational pathway for students ages 16-17 who are at risk of dropping out or not graduating with their expected cohort. In accordance with the Code of Virginia §22.1-254D.E, the ISAEP program allows qualifying students to fulfill compulsory attendance requirements through an individualized plan designed to support completion of a high school equivalency credential while developing career and technical skills.

Participation in ISAEP requires that the student and parent/guardian agree that placement in the program at Dowell J. Howard is in the student’s best interest and that the student is committed to meeting program expectations. The program provides a schedule that allows students to balance educational goals, employment, and personal responsibilities. Students receive academic support while preparing for the high school equivalency credential and gaining valuable workplace experience. Students must successfully complete required assessments prior to earning their high school equivalency credential.

Grades: 9–12
Maximum Enrollment: 15 students

Schedule

• Students who are unemployed: 8:15 a.m. – 2:05 p.m.
• Students who are employed: 8:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

Students must participate in:

• 15 hours of educational instruction per week
• 15 hours of employment/vocational work experience per week
